Pedestrian Hit on I-5 Causes Freeway Shutdown

Tonight a tragic accident involving a pedestrian led to the closure of both directions of I-5 between Meridian and Northwest Avenue around 7:00 PM. The individual sustained serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle near Milepost 257.

Closure Timeline:

  • ~7:00 PM: Both northbound and southbound lanes were fully closed for an accident investigation.

  • 8:35 PM: One northbound lane reopened, while southbound lanes remained closed. WSDOT crews directed traffic and urged drivers to slow down and give emergency workers space.

  • 9:56 PM: All lanes were reopened in both directions.

During the investigation, traffic delays were unavoidable, but safety was the priority as troopers worked at the scene.
