Local Update

Cornwall Memorial Park Parking Lot Closes for Paving Starting Tomorrow

If you use Cornwall Memorial Park regularly, heads up for this week and next. Bellingham Parks and Recreation announced Sunday that a contractor will be performing asphalt repair and replacement in the parking lot off the Meridian Street entrance, with the first phase starting Tuesday, June 2.

The work is split into two phases. On June 2, crews will do asphalt saw cutting in the lot and the section of park roadway off Meridian Street. The bigger disruption comes June 8 through 12, when full asphalt removal and replacement will close that parking area for approximately six working days, weather permitting.

The sport courts, disc golf course, pedestrian entrances, and all trails through the park remain open throughout. Only vehicle access to the Meridian Street lot is affected. Street parking along the park perimeter is available as an alternative. For disc golfers arriving in groups, carpooling is a practical way to reduce the crunch during the closure window. Summer at Taylor Dock: June Kicks Off With Clear Skies Over Bellingham Bay

May is officially in the rearview. Photographer Gerry Creighton captured Sunday morning at Taylor Dock in a photo that pretty much nailed the feeling of Bellingham in early June: clear skies, the bay going glassy, the Olympic Mountains sitting clean to the south, and the whole waterfront trail system waiting to be walked.

Taylor Dock sits along the South Bay Trail at Boulevard Park, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city's waterfront park network. The overwater boardwalk connects Fairhaven to the south and extends toward downtown to the north, making it a natural midpoint on one of Whatcom County's most-used recreational corridors. Bellingham Parks and Recreation manages the trail and park, which sees peak use from May through September.

Sunset is now arriving well past 9 PM and will keep getting later through mid-June. Evening walks out to the dock are one of the better free things going in Bellingham right now. If you are driving to Boulevard Park on a sunny weekend, the main lot off Bayview Drive fills up quickly. Street parking along South State Street is the reliable backup option, or arrive by bike from Fairhaven or downtown. More on Taylor Dock and summer at the waterfront.

Home Sweet Bellingham

June Is Peak Season for Bellingham Real Estate. Here Is What That Looks Like Right Now.

June is traditionally the most active month in Bellingham's housing market. Longer days, dry weather, and the end of the school year bring more buyers and sellers to the table at once. Listings that sat quiet in March tend to move fast once June arrives. If you have been watching a neighborhood, this is the month to pay close attention.

Fairhaven and the South Bay area are perennial summer draws for buyers, with walkable waterfront access and proximity to the Village Green. Cordata and Barkley attract buyers looking for newer construction with more square footage at a lower price per foot than downtown-adjacent options. The City of Bellingham's real estate overview is a reasonable starting point if you want a lay of the land before browsing active listings.

For current homeowners, the warm and dry stretch in this week's forecast is a practical window for exterior projects. Paint adheres better in warm dry weather, landscaping has time to establish before fall rains, and exterior repairs are easier without rain in the picture. If your project requires a permit, Bellingham's permit information is online at cob.org.
