December 26, 2024 — In a move that suggests significant growth for one of Bellingham's craft breweries, Stemma Brewing Company has filed a liquor license application for 508 Carolina Street, the current home of Twin Sisters Brewing. The application, filed on December 18th, 2024, points to a potential expansion of Stemma's operations beyond their existing Moore Street location.

The Twin Sisters Brewing Location has been listed for sales since August 2024 for $3.3M (originally listed at $3.7M). Recent updates show the listing as "pending. Per the listing:

The offering of this turn-key business includes a prime piece of real estate, restaurant, brewery, restaurant & brewery equipment, inventory, and brand equity. The .8 acre property consists of over 11,000 sq ft of custom designed restaurant, tap room, event space, beer garden with outdoor dining space, and over 40 dedicated parking spots. The buildout, completed in 2018, is valued at $5M.

Stemma Brewing, which has built a strong following at their 2039 Moore Street location, said they plan to open a second location rather than relocating. The brewery indicated that any expansion would facilitate growth rather than a move from their current facility, due to the ability to handle more production for the backend operations.

While no official announcement has been made through Stemma's social channels or website, the liquor license application (listed as a ‘assumption’ of the license) suggests the craft brewery is positioning itself for significant growth in the Bellingham market. The timeline for any potential transition remains open.

For craft beer enthusiasts and local residents, this development could signal an exciting new chapter in Bellingham's vibrant brewing scene. As more details become available, The Bellingham Blog will provide updates on this evolving story.
